About Unscramblex.com

Unscramblex.com is a word unscrambler: you enter jumbled letters and it returns every valid word they can form, ranked by score, with definitions a click away, published under the official name Unscramble Words.

UnscrambleX launched in January 2018 to do one job: take a rack of letters and return every valid word inside it, filtered however your game demands.

That single job has grown into the family of game-specific solvers on the site today, all running on the same engine and the official word lists each game recognizes.

The tools cover Scrabble and Words With Friends through to Wordscapes, the daily Jumble and Wordle. The site is free, requires no registration, and works the same on a phone mid-game as on a desktop, supported by advertising, which is what keeps it open to everyone.

Part of what the site earns goes back into the ecosystem it is built on: through Open Collective, UnscrambleX contributes to open-source projects, and those contributions are publicly visible on the ledger, as that kind of thing should be.

Where it comes from

How did Unscramblex.com Start?

Scrabble tiles spelling HOPE, surrounded by loose letter tiles on a table

UnscrambleX launched in January 2018 as a fast way to solve a rack of letters, and has grown iteration by iteration into the set of game-specific solvers on the site today.

The evidence for that origin is in the product itself. The first version did one thing: take a rack of letters and return the valid words inside it, and the focus has not changed since: complete results from official word lists, returned fast enough to keep a game moving. Everything added afterwards is a variation on that single job, tuned to the rules of a particular game.

That is also why the site is organised the way it is. Rather than one generic solver with settings buried in a menu, each game gets its own tool with its own dictionary, because the lists genuinely differ, and a word that scores in Words With Friends is not always legal in Scrabble. The same engine sits underneath every one of them; only the word list and the scoring table change.

Growth since 2018 has been incremental rather than a single relaunch: a new solver added when a game's dictionary became available, a faster index when a rack of fifteen letters started taking too long, a definition layer once "is it a word?" and "what does it mean?" turned out to be the same question players were asking back to back.

The team behind it

Who is Behind the Development of Unscramblex.com?

Laptop screen displaying source code on a desk

Unscramblex.com is built and maintained by the independent UnscrambleX team, which has run the site since its January 2018 launch and can be reached directly at webmaster@unscramblex.com.

The team handles the solver engine, the word-list pipeline that tracks revisions to the official dictionaries, and the definitions and help content published alongside results. The same inbox that takes bug reports takes word-list corrections, and both go to the people who maintain the code. No separate agency or contractor sits between a report and a fix: the person who reads the email is the person who ships the change.

Under the hood

How does Unscramblex.com work?

Unscramblex.com works by matching the letter counts of your input against indexed official word lists, not by brute-forcing permutations, then ranking every valid match by score and attaching its definition.

01
02
03
04
05

You enter your letters. Up to fifteen characters, wildcards included for blank tiles and unknown letters.

Your game's dictionary is selected. Searches check licensed and official game lists (the US and UK Scrabble word lists, the Words With Friends list) rather than a generic English dictionary.

Letter counts are matched against the index. Because the lists are pre-indexed, results arrive in milliseconds even for fifteen-letter inputs with wildcards.

Results are ranked and filtered. Matches come back ranked by score and grouped by length, filtered however your game demands.

Definitions sit one click away. Every result links to its meaning and part of speech, so you can check a word before you play it.

Word lists are updated as the official dictionaries revise, so recent additions appear here once they become playable. The premise behind all of it is that "is it a word?" always means "is it valid in your game?"

What are the Official Social Media Accounts of Unscramblex.com?

Unscramblex.com operates two official social media accounts. Any other profile using the name is not run by the team.

What is the Official Email Address of Unscramblex.com?

Where we operate

Where is Unscramblex.com Headquarter located?

Unscramblex.com has no public office address: it is run as an independent, remote-operated website, and all correspondence is handled through webmaster@unscramblex.com.

The evidence is in how the site is published. UnscrambleX is independent and not affiliated with the game publishers whose dictionaries it supports, and it operates entirely online: the site, the email inbox, the Facebook page and the YouTube channel are the full set of official channels. There is no storefront, no physical mailing address, and no regional office to route a request through.

Legal, data and rights enquiries are handled through the same inbox, with the terms of use and privacy policy setting out what the site processes and how. Being remote-operated is also what keeps the tool free to run: a lean, distributed setup has lower overhead than a staffed office, and that difference is passed on as no ads-gated features and no paywall.

Trust & data

What type of data does Unscramblex.com use?

Unscramblex.com uses four types of data: the dictionary data behind every search, the game rule data that governs scoring and legality, aggregate advertising and analytics data, and basic technical data needed to render results correctly. It uses no names, addresses or payment details, because the site requires no registration.

Licensed and official game word lists, including the US and UK Scrabble lists and the Words With Friends list, plus definitions and parts of speech.

Tile values and validity rules for each supported game, so scores and legality match the game you are actually playing.

Aggregate measurement used to serve the ads that keep the tools free, and to see which solvers people rely on.

Browser, device and language signals needed to render results correctly on a phone mid-game as well as a desktop.

For the full account of what the site processes and how it is handled, see the privacy policy.

How does Unscramblex.com protect your Private Data?

Private data is protected first by not collecting it. Because no registration is required, there is no account, no password and no profile to secure:

No registration, no stored identity. Searches are not tied to a named user, because the site never asks who you are.

Encrypted delivery. Every page and every search is served over HTTPS, so letters you type are not readable in transit.

Data minimisation. Only what is needed to serve results and measure advertising is processed; nothing beyond that is retained.

Documented handling. Third-party advertising and analytics processing is disclosed in the privacy policy, alongside the terms and conditions.

A monitored channel for concerns. Data questions and corrections go to webmaster@unscramblex.com.

How many Words are available on Unscramblex.com?

The number of available words is a range rather than a single figure, because it depends on which game you are solving for:

Which official list applies

The US and UK Scrabble lists and the Words With Friends list each hold a different set of valid words, so the total shifts with the game.

Dictionary revisions

Lists are updated as the official dictionaries revise, so the count moves when new words become playable.

Length limits of the game

Inputs run up to fifteen letters, and words longer than a game can physically place are indexed but rarely returned.

Beyond solving

Can I use Unscramblex.com as a dictionary to learn meaning of words?

Yes. Every result links to its definition and part of speech, so a single search answers validity, score and meaning at once.

Validity check Score value Word meaning

That is why teachers and learners use the tools as much as players do: checking a word tells you whether it is legal in your game, what it scores, and what it means, and that review habit is how the tools make themselves gradually unnecessary.

Why UnscrambleX

What Makes Unscramblex.com Different From Other Word Solver Tools?

Four things separate it from other word solver tools:

Official game word lists, not a generic dictionary

Results are checked against the actual list your game enforces, so a word that is valid on screen is valid at the table too.

A dedicated tool and dictionary per game

Scrabble, Words With Friends and the rest each run against their own list rather than one blended dictionary.

Instant index matching, not brute force

Word lists are pre-indexed, so even a fifteen-letter rack with wildcards returns in milliseconds.

Complete results with definitions attached

Every match links to its meaning and part of speech, so score and legality can be checked in the same pass.
